The Borgata Poker Open is chugging toward the World Poker Tour Main Event in the second week of events here. It is a common decision among some players to not jump into action until midway through a BPO series and two players familiar with the Borgata championship stage are looking to use today’s Event 8 Day 2 for the bigger buy-ins to come. $3,300+$200 WPT Borgata WPO Championship $3,000,000 Guaranteed Structure Sheet Payouts. Level 38: Blinds 400,000/800,000/800,000 BB Ante Total Entries: 1,415. Call it whatever you want, but there’s no denying that this week’s action on the felt at BorgataPoker.com was impressive. Over the course of the week, we saw players cash for tens of thousands in dollars across a number of big tourneys, including our big $35k Guaranteed event on Sunday, our nightly $10k Guaranteed, and a pair of tourneys that can only be described as Mega.
There were no turkey's at this final table, just a bunch of 'sicko's,' and in the end it's Brock Parker (Silver Spring, MD) who won the Borgata Fall Poker Open Championship event early Thanksgiving morning.
Parker beat Scott Baumstein (New York, NY) heads up and outlasted Patrick Chan (Brooklyn, NY) after a marathon session of three-handed play.
'I was lucky considering where I started,' said Parker who was 26th out 27 returning players with only 14 big blinds. 'I didn't expect to stay very long, but I was lucky enough to get two double-ups and then took it from there.'
On the final hand, Parker held K♠ K♥ against Baumstein's K♣ 9♦ on a 9-high flop to claim the title, the trophy and the $372,568 first prize.
'I'm happy with how I played,' said Baumstein, who earned $209,480, the largest cash of his career. 'It was some of the best poker of my life.'
And added, 'This was the toughest final table in the history of Borgata Poker. It was a bunch of sickos.'
The final 10 featured two Borgata trophy winners Vinny Pahuja, who finished 4th, and Jeff Papola (5th), as well as Michael Esposito (6th), the 7th place finisher in 2012 WSOP Main Event.
Also at the final table was Matt Stout (7th), who has more than $1 million in career tournament earnings, and local grinder and good guy Tony Behbahani (9th). But it was the final three that stole the show.
After Pahuja was knocked out 4th, Parker, Baumstein and Chan played three-handed for more than four hours.
'It was a really tough final table,' said Pahuja, 'whoever wins, deserves it.'
Chan was finally knocked out by Parker in third place.
'He (Baumstein) should've been gone a couple of times,' said Chan. 'He got a chop with ace-king to ace-seven, but whatever I'll take it,' he added after earning $131,895 for finishing third.
And it wasn't just the final table that was tough, many of the players who returned for Day 3 were loaded with talent.
Other Borgata trophy winners included Christian Harder, who just missed the final table with an 11th place finish, Brian O'Donohue (13th), Abraham Korotki (19th) and Allen 'Chainsaw' Kessler (20th).
Parker has two bracelets, 15th place finisher Matt Matros has three, while Papola and Lemke (27th) have one each.
The tournament began with 644 entries for a total buy-in of $1,610,000 which smashed the $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.
This is Parker's best finish at Borgata and pushed him over the $2 million mark in live career tournament earnings.
'It was a really good final table,' said Parker. 'A lot of talented players.'

The Event 12 field has been placed in the high-limit area of the Poker Room, and it’s beginning to fill up back there. PLO has become a very popular variation for all players, regardless of stakes played. You can consistently find 1/2, 2/5, 5/10, and 10/25 PLO cash games running throughout the week in the room, with many well known NLH players transitioning over because of the action.
One of the first notables we spotted in the field was She Lok Wong (Woodhaven, NY), a well known NLH tournament player who took second place during the 2013 Borgata Fall Poker Open Championship event ($203,394). Wong boasts a resume with over $429,000 in earnings, and won a PLO event just last month at Foxwoods during the World Poker Finals ($3,826).
Other notables in the early PLO field include:
Paul Shedaker
Sal Pipitone
Philip Nieman
Raj Patel
Joe Palma
Bruce Frank
Lyle Diamond

Total Entries: 655
Tournament Director Tab Duchateau just jumped on the microphone to announce the official number of entries for this event, which was 655. That means that the guarantee was surpassed by over $70,000 with the $170,300 total prize pool!! Just another guarantee crushed here at Borgata during the 2014 Borgata Fall Poker Open.
The action has been a little light since registration closed, with players trying to make sure they give themselves a solid chance to make a deep run in this event. Emad Alabsi continues to trend upwards in the Signature Room, as he is now over 160,000, and has decided to use this time to grab a bite to eat.
Level 1 (Blinds 25/50)
Total Entries: TBD
The second of the two events is about to get underway in the Poker Room, as Event 12 ($200 + 30 Deep Stack PLO High Re-Entry) is going to have the cards in the air in moments. Players will be sitting down to starting stacks of 25,000 for the event, with levels lasting (30) minutes throughout the tournament. Just like the rest of the “main events” in this series, alternates, playing registering late, and those re-entering will all be sitting down to full stacks. The registration period for this event will close after the break post Level 6. Once players are seated and settled, we will bring you some of the notables that decided to jump into the event.
Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Entries: 560 (unofficial)
We are still waiting on the official number of entries for the event to be relayed to us from Tab Duchateau, but until then we will continue with our live coverage of the event. With players having returned, and green chips now off the table, it made it easier for us to collect some chip counts from the Signature Room. Leading the way at the moment is Emad Alabsi (Cleveland, OH), who is surely happy to have been into this event for only two bullets, this after firing multiple shots into the $100,000 guaranteed Event 8.
Emad Alabsi – 120,000
Kevin McColgan – 105,000
Bill Keating – 99,000
Paul Kim – 90,000
Joseph Langnsan – 78,000
Robert Panitch – 70,000
Drake Bronk – 66,000
Irina Akerman – 65,000
Jimmy Lillis – 62,000
Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Entries: 545
Players are heading on an extended break while the registration window officially closes on Event 11. They will return to Level 9 and blinds of 500/1,000/100, with no more extra chances in the tournament (if you ended up getting eliminated, that’s it for the day). We had a chance to take a lap around the Poker Room before break and collect some notable chips counts:
Flo Cino – 80,000
Joe Kapon – 78,000
Mike Neill – 75,000
Trevor Deeter – 70,000
Aristedes Santana – 66,000
Norman Michalek – 55,000
Dimas Martinez – 45,000
Mike Azzaro – 42,000
Greg Raymer – 38,000

Earlier today, we referenced two players looking for “redemption”, one player who finally got his, as Andrew Klein won Event 3 and one looking for another deep run, as Mike Lavenburg will look to get back to another Final Table here today.
Daniel Walsh (Holmdel, NJ) is another player who will be singing a “redemption song” as he finished as the runner up of Event 9 last night.
Walsh already has a Borgata trophy to his name, from this exact series two years ago, but if he had won last night’s event, he would have been in an exclusive group of players that have two Borgata titles to their name.
Walsh is not letting the “losing” effort deter him from his quest for trophy number two though, and is in the Event 11 field, after taking the entire first week of the FPO off to travel cross country.
Walsh was recently seen giving some chips up, but he had close to 100,000 to start that hand, and is still sitting with well over the chip average.
Level 8 (Blinds 400/800/75)

We weren’t sure if we’d see Michael Melkersen (Harrisonburg, VA) this afternoon, after wrapping up Event 10 in the early morning hours, winning his second ever Borgata Poker trophy. Melkersen bested a final tables hosting the likes of Frederick Ferrell, Paul Vacchio, John Creed, and Dimas Martinez.
The trophy came along with winnings of $7,638, pushing his career earnings across the $290,000 mark. An interesting thing to note is the fact that Melkersen didn’t jump into the event until late in the registration period, after busting Day 2 of Event 8 (19th Place – $957). After a few hours of sleep, Michael decided it was time to get back into action, and he makes up a part of the late arriving notables in field:
Mohammad Farah
Scott Blumstein
Dimas Martinez
Scott Blackman
Michael Cologna
Mike Cannon
Mike Azzaro
Will Gallagher
Trevor Deeter
Alex Jin
Robert Klein

Before we continue on with writing about the goings on in the Poker Room, let’s just mentioned that the $100,000 guarantee on this event has been crushed. In other news, the Poker Room is packed with tournament tables, and new notables popping up every time we head on over there.
We saw former WSOP Main Event winner Greg “Fossilman” Raymer (Raleigh, NC) for the first time in yesterday’s Event 9, and he’s back in action this afternoon. Raymer is rocking his “Fossilman Poker Training” koozie, hoping to keep that drink cool while he shoots for his first ever Borgata Poker cash.
While we were picturing the former champ, we noticed one of our newest entries into the field in action. Joseph Hebda (Bloomington, IN) didn’t take long to introduce himself to the field, busting Ari Engel from the table (who quickly went to re-enter). We say newest entries, because there has been a rush of notables to join the action in the poker room:
Norman Michalek
Joseph Galazzo
Angel Pagan
Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/75)
Total Entries: 525
As the tournament field moves into Level 7, there are two more levels left to late register or re-enter into this $100,000 GTD one day Deep Stacked event.
This tournament already has an insane amount of “value” attached to it, as such a small, $300 buy-in, can give you an insane return on your money if you make the money, and even more so if you make it deep.
That value seems to only be increasing as there is already over $140,000 in the prize pool, and eliminated players are seemingly “priced in” to fire another bullet.
We will be keeping tabs on those sent to the rail over the next hour, and then highlight the players who have “survived” the early Event 11 mine field once the late registration period closes.
Level 6 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Entries: 525
Although he may seem more interested in his phone at the moment, Raj Patel (Los Angeles, CA) is definitely putting his chips to work early in this event. Raj is the early chip leader in the Signature Room, sitting with just over 90,000 in front of him. Now we all now that it’s never easy to keep an early hot start going, but Patel is a quality tournament player with some serious results.
Borgata Fall Poker Open Blog Games
Patel has over $1,700,000 in career tournament earnings, very much highlighted by his win on the WPT in 2007 ($9,700 Foxwoods Poker Classic). The win was worth $1,290,405, and jump started a career that now sees him with (70) recorded results on Hendon Mob.

Things aren’t going to be easy though today for Raj, as he has both Brian O’Donoghue and Emad Alabsi on his left, which is no easy task for any poker player.
