The Battle of Malta 2019 is less than a month away. The prestigious, award-winning tournament will start on Wednesday, October 16th and run for seven days with a record number of 27 different events.

- The full schedule for the Battle of Malta 2020 was released as below. It will run for the first three weeks of November and feature a multitude of side events, satellites, and cheap qualifiers. Since the hit show Game of Thrones was initially filmed in Malta, this became part of the theme.
- Malta Poker Festival 2019 to Promote Female Players. The Women’s Poker Association (WPA) has recently named Ivonne Montealegre their International Affairs Director. Because of that, she will try to improve the attendance of female players at the festival by organizing events tailored specifically toward women.
The buy-in for the main event is €555 and it will come with a hefty guarantee of €1,000,000. Last year this guarantee was easily surpassed as a record number of 3.816 entries signed up for the tournament, generating a prize pool of €1,850,760.

The first Battle of Malta was held in 2012 and since then the tournament broke its own attendance record every year. From 349 entries seven years ago to almost 4,000 last year – the BoM paces from record to record. It is not unlikely that this year will see yet another mind boggling attendance number.
Last year the Frenchman Julian Stropoli won the main event and took home €168,500. But he wasn't the biggest winner last year. Due to a deal the final his fellow countryman Maxime Canevet bagged €192,000 - almost 350 times the buy-in.

Where and When?
Casino Malta and Hotel InterContinental
Like last year the Battle of Malta will be held in the massive new Casino Malta and Hotel InterContinental, Malta’s largest 5-star hotel. The conference center can easily hold over 120 tables and accommodate more than 1,000 players per day. Nevertheless, queues are to be expected for the last flights as most players will try and start on Saturday.
The main event starts with Day 1A on Wednesday, October 16th and the final table will be played on Tuesday, October 22nd.

Additional Terms & Conditions:
- Tournament played with big blind ante. BB will be posted prior to the ante in all-in situations.
- Day 1s end with 15% of the field remaining (all remaining players are in the money).
- Player can forfeit his or her stack at the end of Day 1a or 1b but must announce before sealing chips in bag.
- Day 2 will play 8 levels with no dinner break.
- Day 3 will play down to the Final Table.
- Levels will be 45 min when down to 6 players; 30 min when down to 3 players.
What’s new in 2019?
This year the Battle of Malta will be even bigger than last year. For the first time a Mega Highroller Event will be held which comes with a buy-in of €5.300. This year more tables and dealers will be on hand to accommodate even more players and events.
Otherwise the organizers stick to what made the tournament so popular in the first place, which is the mixture of a well-structured low buy-in tournament, fun side events and summer feeling in autumn.

Something new and exciting is about to hit the island of Malta with the Portomaso Casino hosting the Malta Poker Championships on May 13-19.
The festival is the brainchild of Ivonne Montealegre, who also in November hosted the first Malta Poker Festival that proved to be a hit for poker players around the world.
Malta Poker Championships Highlights
The events on the schedule are affordable to everyone ranging from just €40 to €300. The first tournament on the schedule is the Triple Stack Warm-up on May 13 with just a €40 buy-in.
The highlight of the festival is the Betsson One Bullet with two starting flights on May 17. The tournament is a deep stacked affair with players starting with 40,000 in chips and blinds going up every 60 minutes from beginning to end.
Surviving players will battle it out on May 18 until the action is down to a final table which will be played out on May 19. The casino is already hosting live satellites and players can also qualify online at Betsson Poker.

Other festival highlights include the Bounty Knockout Championship with a €170 buy-in kicking off on May 16, the PLO Championship with a €220 buy-in starting on May 18, the Deepstack Championship with a €120 buy-in beginning on May 18, and the first-ever Hendon Mob Short Deck Championship on May 19 with players also having the chance to win a special Hendon Mob flag.
The final tables for all four Championship events and the Betsson One Bullet will be played in style on May 19 on Club Level 22.
